Bowl w/Foxes - Plain, Blue, XSmall 7"
This beautiful fluted porcelain made bowl is created by American artist Jen Stein. The process to create such a beautiful work or art is very detailed. Stein first sketches a scene on paper, then carves that scene onto a "roulette" which is a donut shaped stamp that is carved from a piece of porcelain; this is a reverse image. Then she takes her newly wheel-thrown dish and pushes the wet clay into the textures of the roulette. You can see from the underside of the bowl where she has pushed the clay into the stamp. After the bowl has been fired, Stein stains the bowl a brown color and wipes the raised designs off to give shape to the foliage details and foxes. At last, she hand paints the light blue glaze on the outside and bottom interior of the bowl, brown foxes, green bushes, red berries and mushrooms and applies several layers of food-safe glazes before it is fired one last time. The underside features Stein's signature and number from the collection.
Dimensions : approximately 7.5" in diameter x 2.5" tall
